math support class every Thursday starting Dec. 8th.

Hi families,
I will begin offering extra math support after school for students next month. This will be an opportunity for kids to work with me in small groups to better understand concepts, complete assignments, and ask questions about the topics we’re studying. We will meet on Thursdays, immediately after school for 1 hour. Students MUST arrange their own rides home each week. Pick-up is at 4:10 PM outside the cafeteria...please do not be late. Our start date will be December 8th. You do not need to send a note in that your child is going to attend this class. Students may attend as many sessions that they are able to. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through email. My address is carewr@grafton.k12.ma.us

This week, we are finishing our first of 5 main standards - The Number System. This includes all four operations with integers, decimals, and fractions. It also encompasses divisibility rules with prime factorization. We will assess the students this week to check their retention of skills and provide spiraling back throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteAfter, it's on to Ratios, Rates, and Proportions. We will introduce ratios, rates (including unit rates), and percents and show how these concepts are used in real world applications. This unit will continue up to our holiday break and beyond. You can always have students work on these skills such as when shopping - have them calculate % discounts and even have them calculate which product is the better buy (especially when there are 2 different sizes and prices).
